Frequently

Asked Questions

Why should I book a travel advisor when I can book everything online myself?

You can book it all yourself, but I’m not a booking engine – and I don’t aspire to be one. I want to craft an incredible vacation with you—to really listen, understand how you want to travel, and see you in a way an algorithm never will. I want you to experience a place beyond the top 10 list, in a way that makes you feel like you actually got to know it. And I want your vacation to feel like it started with our very first conversation—not when you finally boarded the plane. No running to-do list. No second-guessing. Just the confidence that I’ve got it covered. The internet can give you endless information, and ChatGPT can give you endless ideas, but neither can give you that kind of confidence.

What if I want to visit somewhere you haven’t been?

I haven’t been everywhere—yet! And I don’t think I need to have personally visited every corner of the world to plan a great trip there. I tap into trusted relationships and firsthand insight from travel partners on the ground, then combine that knowledge with my own research and experience to build the trip. So whether I’ve been there myself or it’s somewhere new to me, you’ll still get the same level of care, attention, and confidence in the details.

How will we communicate during the planning process?

We’ll connect by phone for the inquiry call, itinerary proposal and revisions, and pre-departure call. For everything in between, email is the best way to reach me. It keeps all of your trip details, decisions, and correspondence in one place, making it easier for both of us to stay organized and reducing the chance of something getting missed. It also means you can reach out when it’s convenient for you, without worrying about catching me at the right moment. If something comes up that’s better discussed by phone, just send me an email and we’ll find a time to connect.

Do you recommend travel insurance?

Yes. I strongly recommend travel insurance, particularly for international trips or vacations with a significant investment. You can plan every detail perfectly and still have things happen that are completely outside your control.

I can provide insurance options based on your trip and what you want covered, from trip cancellation and interruption to medical emergencies, delays, and lost luggage. Depending on the policy, there may also be options for added flexibility, including Cancel for Any Reason coverage.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, but I’m happy to help you understand your options so you can decide what makes the most sense for your trip—and travel with a little more peace of mind.

Do you book AirBnb or VRBO?

I don’t book through Airbnb or VRBO, but I can absolutely recommend private villas and vacation homes. I work with a select group of trusted suppliers to find properties that are well suited to your trip and meet the standards I’m comfortable recommending.

Because Airbnb and VRBO properties are individually managed and can vary in both quality and accuracy, I can’t offer the same level of confidence in those listings. When I recommend a private home, I want to feel confident that what you see is what you’ll get.

Can I use my hotel points or loyalty points when booking with you?

I’m not able to book hotel stays using points. When I arrange your hotel, I’m able to work directly with the property and our travel partners if anything comes up before or during your stay. If a hotel is booked independently with points, I don’t have that same ability to step in and advocate on your behalf. You’re welcome to book your own airfare using points though.

How far in advance should I reach out?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but the more time we have, the more options we’ll have to work with. This is especially true for peak travel periods, popular destinations, and trips that involve multiple stops or hard-to-secure reservations.

As a general guide:

  • Safaris, private tours, and remote destinations: 12–18 months ahead
  • Custom international trips: 6–12 months ahead
  • Holiday and peak-season travel: 6–9+ months ahead
  • Short getaways and hotel-only stays: Often much more flexible

If you’re already thinking about a trip, you don’t have to wait until you have every detail figured out. Reach out and we can talk through the timing.

Let me help you take the trip.
